I think you missed the last point entirely:

d. Make appropriate settings to allow local clients to connect to the kodekloud_db6 database through kodekloud_top user using md5 encrypted password for authentication.

Can you please check what was wrong on mine.
I did all steps including md5.

After the install and creating everything on psql, exit back to root of db server and run:

vi /var/lib/pgsql/data/pg_hba.conf
In the bottom half of that file there will be section saying (locals all all peers) change it to => (locals all
all md5).

save and exit out of it. Now, do systemctl restart postgresql. After that try to login with those above created credentials:

[root@stdb01 ~]# psql -U kodekloud_aim -d kodekloud_db6
it will ask for password that you created. If it works, your task will be success.

I have done all of those steps and test was successful, all was fine. But Failed.

I followed all the steps but i got the fatal error. Please help on this.

yum install postgresql* -y
postgresql-setup initdb
systemctl enable postgresql
sudo systemctl start postgresql
echo -n password | md5sum
sudo -u postgres psql
CREATE USER kodekloud_top WITH ENCRYPTED PASSWORD ‘1de08cde294b11aa10e2d39b30286c95’;
CREATE DATABASE kodekloud_db8 OWNER kodekloud_top;
GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON DATABASE kodekloud_db8 TO kodekloud_top;
vi /var/lib/pgsql/data/pg_hba.conf
local all all md5

vi /var/lib/pgsql/data/postgresql.conf
localhost

systemctl restart postgresql
psql -U kodekloud_top -d kodekloud_db8 -h 127.0.0.1 -W
psql -U kodekloud_top -d kodekloud_db8 -h localhost -W

Error statement:

psql: FATAL:  Ident authentication failed for user

Thank you. But I have tried with plain password , encrypted password and also with md5 passwords.

But no luck on this.

@arunbalajil you need not to encrypt password in any way before applying to the user, you just need to make sure local socket connections use md5 for making connections.

@bhavukm I don’t think this would help anyone. Your reply defeats the whole purpose of KKE

i think your issue is that you put the password in md5, and the lab accepts the one that requests!
