Demo - Install VirtualBox on MacOS - CentOS version

The instructor said that we will be downloading CentOS 7, even though 8 is available (and as of today the latest is 8.3). Is there a reason why we should stick to the latest 7, or we should just download the latest stable?

RedHat is making some changes to CentOS, transforming it into CentOS Stream. Because of this, they decided to only offer a limited support term for CentOS 8.

CentOS 7 is supported until June 30th, 2024
CentOS 8 is supported until Deceber 31st, 2021
https://www.centos.org/centos-linux/

Because of this difference in support times, many people prefer CentOS 7 over CentOS 8.

EDIT: this is probably the reason that the KodeKloud people are still using CentOS 8, although I can’t speak for them
